Archie On the Air Day

Although Dick Clark scored the title of World’s Oldest Teenager, Archie Andrews has been stuck in clueless angst since 1941. Today in 1943, he received his own radio show, the Archie Andrews program, which ran for ten years around the country.

Although often mocked because of the considerably-less-than-edgy content, Archie and the gang served as an introduction for untold numbers of kids into the world of comic books, as well as a springboard for spin-off characters like Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Josie and the Pussycats. Even the most discerning geek will still take a brief mental vacation when anyone mentions Betty and Veronica, and who hasn’t wondered how Jughead would do on an episode of ‘Man vs. Food?’

Archie Comics are still going strong today, and they’ve even changed with the times. Celebrate today by sneaking a peek at the latest issue in the grocery checkout line, download the Archie app or go all out and listen to actual recordings of the Archie Andrews radio show available on Archive.org.
